UHR Employment and Compensation Office

Who We Are

As the flagship institution in the State of Maryland, the College Park campus relies on a highly diverse workforce of approximately 6,000 staff employees to promote and support its mission of teaching, research and service. Non-faculty (staff) employment opportunities are dynamic and vary in scope from Nonexempt positions in the maintenance, office, service and technical/para-professional areas, to Exempt positions that are administrative, professional and managerial in nature.

University Human Resources-Office of Employment and Compensation Services is responsible for the staffing process for Nonexempt vacancies on campus, for both regular and contingent positions. The UHR staff is dedicated to providing campus hiring units with qualified candidates who match the knowledge, skill and ability preferences unique to individual position vacancies.

In addition to collaborating with hiring units to determine their exact requirements, Employment and Compensation Services reviews and certifies applicants for Nonexempt positions, provides departments with "List of Eligible" candidates for vacant positions, recruits candidates for difficult-to-fill vacancies and prepares the weekly vacancy posting. Employment and Compensation Services is the campus focal point for placing position vacancy advertisements with newspapers and journals, often at a reduced fee structure.

This office actively attends job fairs seeking top quality candidates, promoting the University of Maryland as an employer of choice in the Washington-Baltimore region. The University actively subscribes to a policy of equal opportunity and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant because of race, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, religion, political affiliation or personal appearance. Upon request, reasonable accommodations will be provided to individuals needing assistance.
